Norfolk Southern 4004 is an AC44C6M type locomotive, rebuilt out of old C44-9W units. As the 4th rebuild of the type, it has been painted in a special "black mane" livery. However, enthusiasts have taken to calling it and engines 4003-4006 (also painted this way) "Shadow the Hedgehog" after the resemblance to the video game character.
